Theme Supreme

They say, “Art imitates Life” and so we like to incorporate ‘real-life’ themes into our Kindy classes. This way these young ones are not onlyl learning and enjoying performance skills but also interacting with real-world concepts in a fun and energetic way.

The last few weeks our classes exploded into the SPORT theme. How fitting for such a sport-mad country.

During the lessons teachers and students discuss the theme and share what they know and experience around the themes. Various activities then focus in on a number of skills. For example, during Movement we focus on balancing – students balance carefully while walking across a line like gymnasts; they even have to carry something on their heads for an extra challenge.

We also read and perform scenes from books. For this particular theme we use “The Sports Day” by Nick Butterworth & Mick Inkpen. Students live out the characters and scenarios from the story and bring the words and pictures to life in their unique way.

Rainbow Montessori's Kindy students just LOVED this theme

We also had great fun playing “Balloon Sports”. Using balloons allow the students to simulate ball sports without risking injury –or damage in the classroom J So much fun had by boys and girls alike!

Brand new season for Kindy

The heat is on in the Cape and it’s making its way to our classes and studios.

But that won’t stop the students from putting their best faces and voices forward as we prepare for our production. Productions are little over a month away and the excitement and nerves are building. From aboard a Pirate Ship to the mishaps of a Circus Troupe to the tragedies of Shakespearean yesteryear.

Our Kindy classes may not be preparing for full production like our older classes but they have been enjoying inspired classes. Themes this term will see them travel through the jungle and learn all about the seasons and weather in the most dramatic way.

But while that’s what we’re looking forward to, let’s first look back. Let’s just take a minute to admire the princesses and super heroes of our Kenridge Kindy class.

Dreams begin at Kindy class

Helen O' Grady and their teachers strive to inspire students to dream. And dreaming is not age restricted. Dreaming starts right now!

Last week the Kenridge Kindy princesses ended off the second theme for this term: Night and Day. They got to do this with sleepover themed lesson. Not that any sleeping happened!

The girls practiced their speech, did their movement exercises and discussed what they'd learnt thus far during the Night and Day theme. They then ended off the lesson with The Pillow Fight improv.

The Kindy class is a great platform for young students to learn the basics of speech and drama in a high energy, interactive and informal way. They are also exposed to other students and learn to listen not only to instructions but the stories of their classmates.

Call the office or visit our website to find out more about the Kindy class.
We're waiting to meet you and your little one.

Lights. Camera. Action. Sport!

Our Kindy classes are a great way for young drama kings and queens to get familiar with drama principles. Our teachers love teaching these classes as energy and enthusiasm levels are at its highest. Students are aged between 3 and 5 and get to learn to express themselves, tell stories and communicate with others. We have found that this space offers our students the opportunity to grow their confidence as well as their self-esteem.

The term is divided into themes allowing students to learn about the world we live in and expand their language and understanding.

We’re currently enjoying a sport theme in our Kindy class and our young ones are getting to mime their favourite sporting activities, learn the role of referees, and learn to work in teams as well as other key learnings. This is done through movement, mime, improv, storytelling and listening games.

Students use balloons to play various sports. What fun!

The Kindy class is the best possible start for children with an interest in drama. It is also a great place for children to start interacting with others in preparation for school and life.

Drama for ALL

Schools all over the world benefit from the wonderful programmed delivered by Helen O' Grady Drama Academy. Students from the age of 3 to 18 are equipped with skills in communication, creativity and performance. Presenting the drama programme at schools enhances school life for all children, it challenges them to think creatively and also encourages them to explore thoughts, dreams and ideas. The programme is not, however, limited to public, private and government schools. We also service Montessori schools.

Rainbow Montessori in Durbanville is new to Helen O' Grady and already students are showing a keen interest in all aspects of the curriculum.

The Rainbow Academy Primary Composite students enjoy all the
activities that form part of the weekly drama lesson.

Chameleons Montessori have been part of the Helen O' Grady family for a few years and the school extends the programme to the youngest learners. Teacher, Lize Goosen enjoys interacting with the young drama kings and queens as they get a head start in their development.

The Kindy students showcase their performance skills during the
Music themed lessons.

Would you like Helen O' Grady to come to your school?

Early start for Drama Kings and Queens

The Helen O' Grady drama curriculum is not limited to students of school-going age. Our small steps to big success starts with our Kindy Drama programme for students between the ages of 3 and 5. The programme offers Pre-schoolers a head start as they gain confidence and self-esteem and are taught skills in verbal communication.

The Kindy programme includes all drama principles and key skills. The young ones are exposed to speech, movement and improv, building in them the ability to listen, share, follow instructions and vocalise their thoughts and emotions.

Teachers all around the Cape are equipped to present these lessons in a fun, stimulating way so that ALL students walk away inspired.
